French Polynesia travel agency: It made me see certain fragrances differently

Post by MilaRosalie »

Hello,

Lately I've been getting really interested in island-inspired fragrances and tropical accords. I've discovered a few perfumes built around tiare flower, monoi, coconut and ylang-ylang, and I think they each have a unique personality. Depending on the composition, they can feel creamy and sun-soaked, or more floral and slightly green, which makes them especially enjoyable to wear during warmer weather.
While trying to learn more about what inspired these scents, I happened to come across the website of a French Polynesia travel agency. I wasn't looking for perfume-related information at all, but browsing through the different islands, the landscapes and the overall atmosphere gave me a better understanding of why so many perfumers draw inspiration from that part of the world. It adds another layer to these fragrances because you can almost picture the scenery or the feeling they're trying to capture.
Since then, whenever I try a decant with these kinds of notes, I pay more attention to the story or the landscape it seems to evoke rather than simply thinking, "it smells like a tropical vacation." That's also one of the reasons I enjoy buying decants so much, they give you enough time to really experience a fragrance over several days before deciding whether a full bottle is worth it.
